I am a digital business native with a long track record designing and driving global innovation initiatives. I began my career building and launching multimedia news products for internet pioneers like Yahoo!, AOL, and Google.
Building and launching these early online reports with the Reuters NewMedia team back in the day, ushered in a new era of news media. This happy accident of time and place, set me on a wonderful and action packed journey of emerging tech, product innovation and corporate responsibility. One of my earliest successes was an editorial collaboration between Reuters Media and Billboard magazine and VNU e-media that launched one of the most profitable and popular entertainment news services for the company.
I co-founded the Thomson Reuters Black Employee Network with an amazing group of colleagues in the early days of corporate affinity groups. My team and I hosted the first Reuters Newsmaker on Africa when almost nobody in NYC financial services was talking about Africa…and I mean, nobody. I led one of the first corporate innovation partnerships with Vodafone and learned a TON about how to build successful co-creation programs inside of large corporations. In 2015, I served as Global co-Chair of the Black Employee Network and we hosted one of the first, open, company conversations on race in Corporate America. Conversations about race and racism in the corporate workplace had been taboo up to that point and this one changed the trajectory of the company’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
In 2015, I moved with my family to Cape Town to launch a new data and innovation lab focused on inclusive business in Africa, where we did amazing work with an amazing team. In 2019, I co-Founded Bright Insights Global with my business partner Jackie Cureton to pursue our passion and help companies drive performance through the lens of innovation, inclusion and impact. In 2019, we launched the NYC Diaspora Think Tank to tap into the power of our network to support and accelerate inclusive business and economic development in Africa. We designed and produced a series of inclusive business panels and workshops during the first Global Intrapreneur Week in 2020 and showcased inspirational change-makers from across Global Africa. I am particularly proud of our role in helping to produce the 2020 Minnesota Justice Research Center Re-imagining Justice Conference #MNJRC2020 and raising awareness around the reforms necessary for the US justice system to end the criminalization of poverty and to center equity and fairness.
Today, I continue my focus on inclusive and regenerative business practices and make use of technology to create new opportunities for business and for humanity. I am passionate about building and accelerating forward thinking, purpose driven organizations with a fundamental commitment to inclusive business, regenerative economic development and human progress. I’m a natural collaborator and my best work has been in partnership and collaboration. The cornerstone of my approach can be summed up in one African proverb: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
“A ‘think and do’ consortium dedicated to the inclusion of African talent and perspective in the development trajectory of Artificial Intelligence.”
